stopping a standing order... for tomorrow!

The following situation is all due to my own stupidity and disorganization, Im already aware of this, but im wondering if theres any solution.

Ive got a standing order for the 1st of each month to pay my house rent. I actually move out tomorrow but have only now remembered about the standing order. I have cancelled the payment online through barclays, however the payment has already left my account - forward dated for tomorrow.

Considering the payment is dated for tomorrow, is there a way of stopping this? I'd rather not have to deal with my landlord who is notoriously slow to resolve any problems.

Ive already contacted Barclays twice, once I got cut off, and once I was told to call back tomorrow when the relevant department was open

Not much unfortunately, apart from trying to remove all the money in your account today so that there is nothing available to be transferred tomorrow.

A more sensible soution would be to write to both the bank and the landlord explaining what has happened - then you will have a dated record.

Presumably someone also holds your security deposit so it will pay to keep things friendly.

    Good Luck

Yeah it's fine-Barclays need to speak to RBCR (which is one of their teams-it's their term for complaints) and then they will reverse it for you. It can only be done on the day so call them first thing at 8am and they will reverse it for you. Don't let them fob you off. I have done this before and it was on the day-I actually asked them a few days before and I was about to get on a plane to Brussels when I checked my balance at the airport and found they had let the payment go that morning-I was furious but they still reversed it immediatly because of BACS timings. You will be fine. If it was a direct debit-that would be a different story, but it's a standing order so it's easy done.

    Hope this helps x

    k

Won't this just incur a £25 charge for returned DD though

My son did this when he left his uni accomodation and his bank HSBC did manage to recall it, although it was difficult and they couldn't confirm it had been stopped until around 3pm in the afternoon.

It's not a DD though so it's up to Barclays to pay the money and not the LL to "take".
It might be possible, if there's zero in the account Barclays, might not pay it.
A big risk to take though because Barclays would be too tempted to profit from the OD charge looming and pay anyway irrespective of the lacking funds?
