using vlc and zdsoft screen recorder ... won't record/screen black

Hi, sorted this problem easily on a previous format, and can't work out what's wrong, apart from I installed a different pack of codecs ... now replaced with Ace Mega Pack, but don't know if traces of other codec pack are messing things up. I've tried ticking the thing in VLC that stops video overlay, have switched off/on system's and WMP's hardware acceleration, tried other screen recorders (Camstudio recorded the screen but then VLC wouldn't play it, so the problem was the other way around!), hide wallpaper/not hide wallpaper, updated graphics driver, system's clean. I just don't get it, and would SO welcome advice with this. Driving me dotty :-)

PS Have also just upgraded to latest version of VLC. Had this error on previous one and forgot to mention ... when start ZDSoft Screen Recorder recording, VLC seizes up totally. ZDSoft video recorder records fine, but audio/video slightly out of sync, so gave that one up!

Usually Camstudio or DemoCreator can publish the screen capture movie as Flash or Avi file. My first idea when I saw this problem is that, there was something missing to your VLC players. Maybe you can try another play Avi. Or you can publish as flash and open it with Internet explorer.

Many thanks ... thought post'd gone down the list, so didn't update by saying ended up using ZDSoft Video Recorder after all, which for some reason is in sync now!?, plus realised I didn't have latest version of VLC. So, yes VLC update must have sorted something, and no idea what other issues there were with recording, but hey it's solved, lol!

Taking snapshots or making a full video? In fact, some screen recorders like DemoCreator can do both. If you would like to save a certain frame as a still picture, just export it as a picture format you like. The truth is not many people use the picture saving function. But I think it is very helpful.

Thanks Boll007. It was about making a full video. DemoCreator looks great and can see how the picture saving function would be helpful. For some reason the ZDSoft Screen Recorder I was so puzzled by started to work, but I don't know which codec/setting etc caused that! Not going to format the machine, but that makes for good housework! Thanks for suggestion; will take a better look at DemoCreator. Best regards, Cat

If you want to playback CamStudio files in VLC, you need to install the lossless codec available on the CamStudio website.

DemoCreator looks great and can see how the picture saving function would be helpful.
