I have a pre paid leccy metre, which on average in the summer i spend about £10 per week, in the winter it's about £25 per a week, i only heat 2 rooms because it's just too expensive, i'm currently being supplied by npower, is this about average or am being totally ripped off.
I am dreading this winter, already replacing all light bulbs with energy saving ones, and stocking up on extra blankets.
I rent a 300 yr old, draughty flat, so its hard to keep the place warm, it's fitted with economy 7 heating, i was spending £7 per day, so they quickly was turned off.
If i switch power company would it be any cheaper????

Hello,
I'm on a PPM, I spend about £10 a week at the minute if I'm careful. My electric is higher if the emersion is left on too long/ tumble drying etc etc (so I do all this on the cheap rate overnight).
I have never spent £7 a day on storage heater as they charge up overnight, are you on the economy 7 tarif (should hae a cheap rate overnight)?
Also, if you low income(get benefits such as CTC/WTC), you can apply to go on a social tarif with lower costs or if you have no debt you could take a look around at changing suppliers.Payment a day challenge: £236.69

You could look into Ebico, same price no matter how you pay. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Check that you meter is set for day and night prices - sometimes they default to 1 price, which would charge you higher prices for your storage heaters.
As above, you could look at changing supplier (and ebico usually come out at/near the top for PP customers), or you could look at getting the meter taken out and going for an online tariff.0 -
You should get some draught proofing in your house. Grants are available from the Government and local authories. Or you can jus do it yourself, filling gaps with newspaper etc... Look at the energy saving tips on the Energy Saving Trust website http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/.
Ebico charge the same rates for PPM and DD customers, so you could probably save a reasonable amount.Ebico worker0 -
I will advice you to change your power company because your electricity bill will cheaper. I was in a simarily situation were i was paying too much for electricity bill but i which to a different electricity supplier my bill fell my 10%.0

You can purchase plastic film that you tape across the windows and then blow with a hairdryer to make it fit properly: really keeps out drafts and hardly noticeable in place. Just leave one window not done so you can ventilate properly. Alternatively makeshift curtains out of cheap IKEA fleeces. I have an electric blanket on my bed and considering a second for my sofa - they only cost the same to run as a lightbulb.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
