VHS to DVD

Hi all,
My Dad wants to put his VHS collection onto his PC and back them up to DVD. Can anyone recommend some hardware, preferably from experience, that will do this well?
I've looked around and have seen usb devices that appear to do the job but I reckon the quality won't be that good, or am I wrong?

Easiest way is to buy a stand alone DVD Recorder, plug the VHS Player in to it and dub directly from one to the other.

Maplin do a USB VHS system, to allow you to records straight to the PC:
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=vhs%20usb&source=15&SD=Y

Transfers VHS films and home movies directly to your PC at the touch of a button
    · Rediscover and convert your home movies to digital format and save them to your PC via USB
    · Burn the VHS to DVD
    · Watch your VHS programmes on PCs, PSPs, iPods and other media players
    · Connect your PC directly to your camcorder
    · Can still be used as a traditional VHS player for the more nostalgic
    · Edit your home movies and take them to the next level -add still images and digital music
    · RCA audio/video inputs to archive from external sources like video cameras
    · Includes Easy Video Conversion software to customise movies and burn DVDs
    · Composite video output and audio line output
    · Auto tracking, variable speed slow-motion, playback and rewind
    · Capture still images from video
    · SCART output to use as a standalone VHS player
    · Connects to Windows XP and Vista machines via USB 2.0 port
    · Capture video at resolutions up to 720 x 576 (PAL)
    · Sends video uncompressed over the USB cable
    · Export video to iPod or PSP format, even upload to YouTube

Thanks, but I reckon the price is too much. Having said that it could be a small cottage industry for him; sorting all those tapes for his friends.
I was hoping for someone who may have used the usb convertors.
