Pay as you go credit card

Hi all due to past credit problems me and my partner only have a joint nationwide Flexi Account with this account you only get a cash card the problem is when we see products on the net at cheaper prices than the local shops we miss out because we dont have a debit/credit card, I have heard about credit cards that you top up before you spend this sounds like a good idea can you guys give me a bit more info on these cards and also which one to go for also do they take you credit status into account when applying for one or can anyone get one ?

Open an account with LLoyds TSB, they will give you their cash account that comes with a 2 in 1 Visa Debit card, yes Visa Debit not Electron, no overdraft or cheque book but works as a normal account and is reported to all three Credit reference agencies with a nice green [0] on your file and it is listed as a current account and not as a limited account.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

They (top up card) with Virgin do not check records, as my son has just got one and he is 14 - only using it so he can use one sensibly and not make the mistakes I have made - we put his pocket money onto it, so he can use it on ebay etc and not our cards, which we then forget about!!!

I have a Paypal Visa pay as you go card. I am pretty impressed with it. It cost me £4.95 for the year. If you top it up via Paypal then they don't charge for the top up so if you have a paypal account it is ideal. Even if you don't have a debit card on your Paypal account you can set up a direct debit to use a Paypal account. There's no charge when you spend on it either. With the top up card I do believe they charge to put money on it else were.
