Tax credits Change of Circumstance

I have been claiming Child Tax credits and WFTC as I worked part time.

I informed them on the phone that I have stopped working now.

I am wondering if all payments will stop, CTC and WFTC before they recalculate my CTC based on a benefit claim or if the CTC will continue untouched and only the WFTC will stop.

Just wondering if when i look in my bank on Wednesday if I can expect my CTC money to be in there.

  • You will still continue to receive CTC & WTC whilst they are recalculating the award. It usually only takes a couple of days for it to re-calculate. From this time you will only receive your CTC.

If you qualify for the 4 week run on of WTC it will be sent to you in the post as a one off giro payment.

The four week run on is a nightmare, check out my post.

They apparently take 4-6 weeks to work it out. Until the 4 weeks have past you're not entitled to IS which is ridiculous if have no other source of income. I'm still waiting for mine to be processed.

I see its complicated but what are the criteria for getting it?
Is it like you have to be on WFTC for a set number of weeks like with a benefit run on?
Or is everyone who has received any amount of WFTC entitled to this?
  • You need to have had at least 4 weeks of WTC. And you must have notified TCO immediately that you left the job. They will deduct any overpaid WTC from the run on payment.
