Old Egg Card vs Egg Money

Options
I've had an Egg card for about four years. I occasionally put big purchases on it, but it's essentially a backup emergency card. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't switch it to a new Egg Money card, but still use it for the same purpose?

  • I'm in the same boat - I don't use the card so the rate of interest etc. aren't really that exciting. I'm not sure, but I think the APR on the Egg Money card is better.

I'm not switching simply as it would require me to apply for the new card and cancel the old one - there isn't an "upgrade" option. Lazy I know ... but I never use it and have other "emergency" cards ... I really should just cancel my Egg card I guess.

There is an interesting "money back credit cards" article the Martin did that mentions the new Egg Money card in context of those deals - have a look.
  • Just realised there are a lot of other threads on the board with advice / analysis on the Egg Money card ...

tryingtosave - yes, there are lots of other threads, but I can't find one that tells me whether in my situation I should sit tight or change to the new card...

The cashback is much better on the Egg Money card.

You get the anniversary deal on the old Egg card but not the Egg Money card.

Both can be used as a mule.

The interest rate could be better on Egg Money or could be the same.

Don't think there are any other significant differences or an obvious answer... I use my Egg card for stoozing 5 months a year and my Egg Money card for the cashback, so I like having both. It's down to you really.

Sorry not to be more helpful, but it's really a question only you can answer!

Hi, the apr on the new egg card is only 6.9%.I found this out today.I rang to increase my limit on the old egg card which i have'nt used since early this year, so that i can shove a balance on it interest free(anniversary offer in jan).I got declined, but they said they'd send a link to the other card to me.I'm starting to worry that my tarting days are numbered!

6.9% APR is the typical rate.

    "What is a typical rate?
A typical rate is the rate payable on a negative balance that we'd expect to give to at least 66% of applicants."
