Dishwasher not completing its program

I bought a slimline dishwasher off ebay for £50, no where in the listing did it state it had anything wrong it. Another ebayer asked why it was so cheap, the seller replied:
"The dishwasher was left in a house i have just purchased, but is not required. Please feel free to view the item before you bid. If you had any problems with the dishwasher when you installed it i would give you a full refund"
This is the reason i bought it, but i've got it home and tested it and it doesn't complete its cycle. It washes the dishes fine, but the dial does not go all the way around to 'stop' therefore the dishes are still wet.
OH is really keen to get it fixed, is it fixable, what might the problem be, is it expensive to fix?
(Have posted a similar one on ebay regarding refund etc, OH wanted me to post it here as well, but he's looking for info on fixing the problem)
Thanks
