  • With regards to the end dates, i've tried searching for an end date in the search feature. I put insometihing like "E: 06/09", the format that they all use, but it can never find any posts, although there are obviously comps that finish on the said date.

Anyone any ideas if this works like this, and what i'm doing wrong?

    Thanks.

    FAQ's! (courtesy of kisto)

    - Comps endings threads have been suspended pending a discussion by the board guides regarding their future.

    - To find competitions by closing date refer to my post here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...&postcount=295

    - If you can't find the comps for a particular impending closing date try looking in game over. The Board Guides may have moved them across to there.

    - You can also google the mse comps by closing date. Please refer to this post by cake21 to find out how:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...&postcount=294
(*note* if you use google bear in mind it may bring up competitions from previous years)

OK, I don't post many competitions, I don't have a high post count, I do try to provide answers when I can and I don't WHINGE.

You would have a higher post count if you didn't delete them all though ;):D :rotfl:

But yes, I concur - it is getting a tad frustrating now. This forum is so much more than the blasted comps ending threads.

Not too busy to read just work full time, have kids etc and just human!!! I was mainly looking for idea's to help me search as relatively new to all of this. So thank you for the search idea's .........

Al Macs suggestion is the best way to search now. Its fab, so easy.

Kisto posted this earlier in discussion thread, however people seem to be missing it or not bothering to click on the links to it. If you go via the links theres a screenshot as well, which is really helpful.

The way to find comps by ending date on here is:

Scroll to the bottom of the main competition forum. There are some drop down boxes (under the heading display options).

    Choose:

    sorted by - "thread title"
sort order - descending or ascending (what ever is your personal preference)

The threads on the forum are then organised by the ending date stated in the thread title. Navigate your way through the pages until you find the ending date you want. Now that divadee has gone to great lengths to ensure they are all titled correctly, the threads are actually very well organised into groups.

Hope this helps you out a little
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx

As others have said please read the sticky's this is getting very tiresome having to merge endless where's the comps ended threads gone. Not only that but you have even asked in the main comps board the sticky's are there for a reason...to ask this type of question.

S'okay - as a newbie I'm sure you're still trying to find your way round the boards - I'm sure you'll contribute a bit more once you've got a few more posts under your belt!!

I suggest when someone posts asking on the main forum that it just gets ignored until a BG sees it and moves it as that way it will soon drop down the forum;)
From now on also i'm not going to leave a redirect so it won't stay on the main forum either:)

To be fair that thread is pretty fast moving and a lot of people don't want to waste time reading through all the basic questions it usually contains.

But if people only read the first two pages, all the information regarding the comps ending being suspended, plus alternative methods for search have been posted there/here! It would take 5 minutes max to read those pages - also now I'm sure the last two pages of that/this thread contain the same information (because it is being repeated over and over again on a daily basis)

It can also be a bit intimidating to people who aren't part of the clique.
There is no clique and I feel really sad if people are feeling intimidated. This forum is so friendly. I only began comping here in March. So I'm no long standing member or old timer...but I felt more than comfortable to join in. I simply lurked for a while, read what people had to say and then got involved. There's absolutely nothing stopping anyone else doing the same.

A lot of the frustrations that are being vented at the moment are because people are not bothering to read. If generous posters can use their time to find comps to post on here, is it not too much to expect others (that wish to enter those comps that have been found by other members) to then use their time to read before posting?
If it is so much of a hassle get a thread pinned at the top of the board to give people info on what is happening in the comps ending discussion.
I'm beginning to think that this may be an idea as we are getting 2 or 3 posts like this every day now. I'm sure there is a legitimate reason as to why there isn't a stickied thread (after all merging these threads is just creating more work for the BG's).
