New toilet will not flush properly

Options
I am looking for a flash of insparation. It will be weeks before our plumber returns and I want to use my new loo!

We have just had a new bathroom installed with back to wall toilet into a vanity unit with concealed cistern & dual button flush.

Ever since it was installed the flush has been inadequate, in that it takes 2 flushes to get rid of toilet paper alone! Even then the water level rises more than it should.

It seems to me that there is not enough "Whoosh" no matter how long you push in any of the buttons. Hubby says that is nothing to do with it.

We have made sure there is no blockage and adjusted the cistern itself to let in more water.

A friend told me that we might have a cistern designed for downstairs loos not upstairs! Anyone heard of this? Apparantly a peice of plastic inside can be changed to make it an upstairs one? Hubby laughed at this but why would my friend make it up?

Luckily we have a downstairs loo as well so we are not cross legged!:o

think your friend is a fool!

the only item that is removable is from the ball valve inlet and is a restrictor, but this is only for tank/ mains pressure

if i was to visit your property the first things i would check would be

blockage to soil pipe, have there used a flexi panconnector as the ridges do slow the water down, does the pipework have a decent fall

you say that the water rises this is a indication that the soil pipe has no vent?

does your soil pipe stick out your roof with a terminal on, or does it have a air admittance valve?

i have also had issues with ideal standard btw kyomi pans, hope thats not the same as yours

    Hi

An 'upstairs' cistern is of a better quality than the 'downstairs' type (it's only for the servants isn't it?) ;)
That was supposed to be a joke!

I think your friend might mean the water pressure can be high for downstairs and low pressure gravity for up. You would change the ballvalve seating to suit whatever you have.Otherwise no truth in that at all.

Can you see if the waste pipe from your wc is falling away from the pan (or at the very least level) and does not rise up away from it.?

PS I assume the pan is new and intended for low water usage.?

  • Sounds like its the flexi hose, makes perfect sence. Have posted a photo anyway but will get plumber to bring the stuff to replace the flexi when he comes back.
