Ikea sell all the essential pans etc. in one box. It's really cheap and you hardly need to think about whay you need as it's all organised.

All the plates, teatowels etc are really cheap too.

The stuff won't last forever but it's a great place to start.

Which part of the country are you in? It's always worth checking Freecycle.

I would recommend Ikea if buying for a whole house:

But for something cheaper (if lacking the time to spend waiting for stuff to come up freecycle), then Tesco Value stuff is good enough for uni. If you break it, it's cheap to replace. They do all sorts of cheap cooking equipment now. I bought cheap pots and pans which were a couple of quid each (1998) and they last me all the way through to my marriage 1996 which was when I got a 'proper' set :)

If you have a Poundland near you they are well worth a visit. It's amazing the things they sell for a quid!!

  • Try Matalan, Tesco or Argos.

You could try a charity shop for utensils and china , sometimes they have some nice stuff.
