Leaking Dishwasher - advice?

Hi,
Our diswasher has developed a small leak. The water is coming from one of the bottom corners and collects into a small puddle.
Called a repair place today and they want £70 callout plus parts costs.
Before I get them out are there any simple things to check?
I'm wondering if it might be best to just buy a new and more energy efficient dishwasher instead of paying the callout fee!
Thanks

Check the door seal hasn't split or isn't covered in gunk. If its ok, disconnect power and close the water supply off and pull the DW out and tip it onto its back (rest it on something, dont lay it right down flat) and check all the connections underneath for security or obvious signs of leakage. There's not really much to a dishwasher to be honest, definately worth having a look yourself. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

Agree with previous poster about the diagnostic steps. Dishwashers can hold a fair bit of water in their sump, so if its leaking when not working the chances are it's in one of the pipes underneath. If this is the case it will probably be obvious when you tip it onto its back as there will be discolouration or a rust trail. It may well be a problem with the outlet pump - I had a problem with mine a couple of years ago, when water seeped into the motor and eventually seized it. These are expensive to replace, and to be honest it may be better to get a new dishwasher rather than pay for the callout and parts/labour on the repair. Not difficult to replace yourself if you're competent, but there is a dangerous combination of electricity and water (see the other dishwasher thread from a day or two ago for advice).0

The posters above a right - but try chucking a bit of food colouring in the washer to give yourself a clue as to what is leaking, nine times out of ten it is something simple and only if a leak is long term will it be obvious, good luck BTW.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0
