Can a Quinny Zapp go on as hand luggage?

I have a Quinny Zapp with carry bag, wondered if Ryan Air will allow this to go on as hand luggage (using my toddlers hand luggage allowance)?

Why would you need to? We have a Buzz and its huge. Just take it with you to the gate and the airline will surely carry it additionally and free?

The Zapp folds tiny, she is 2yrs will be flying as a child and therfore buggy will cost extra. Thats why I wanted to know if it can go as hand luggae. It fits their measurements when folded.

Are you kidding? Ryanair charge if the child is over two? If that is true its ridiculous.

    a normal airline - yes

    budget airline ......:rotfl:

Don't forget that if you do get them to take it, there is no guarantee it will arrive the other side in one piece. My buggy still has the huge scars from a 99p ryanair flight (so infact I feel that flight cost me £170.99  ) +tax and visa surcharge etc..

Fold it and pack it in its bag BEFORE you check in and treat it as hand luggage, then have the argument!

I would guess that at the check in scrum they would want to have the toddler firmly stapped into the buggy, & continue to use it until the very last minute when they are actually allowed to board the plane (and then start fighting for seats)

cant comment on ryanair but we used one last year through two airports to America with KLM, it didnt count as hand luggage, we just pushed our 18mth son in it right up to the gate and then put it in the bag before boarding. It came in handy with when we had time to kill in the airport between flights.

Only thing I would say is we did have one problem, at amsterdam they put all of your hand luggage and coats etc through metal detectors and scanner and on our last flight of the holiday back to the UK when the zapp went through the scanner there was suddenly a lot of action behind the scanner and security shouting whats this in there, showing me the screen you could clearly see the shape of a gun. This was the solid metal piece that holds the front wheel ,a hairy moment followed as I opened the bag slowly to show them it was where the front wheel went. :)

Buggys are mobility equipment and carried free... even on Ryanair.

Ryanair T&C's state that one buggy per CHILD may be taken up to the plane and carried free so it is not just for up to 2 years old. We travelled on 4 Ryanair flights recently and only had an issue with one stroppy check in agent who eventually conceded she was wrong so I would suggest you print and carry these T&C's with you.
  • The problem is not when you are at the airport, getting ready to go onto to the flight, but when you get off the airplane. Quite often, the airline will not be-able to give you the buggy when you get off the plane - if you have put it in luggage. Normally, the planes stop quite far away from passport control and luggage pickup and if you are travelling to the US, there can be a long wait to go through passport control.
Especially if you are travelling with two or more children, it would be amazing to have a buggy for that part of your journey! Trust me - I have done many times, trying to carry the hand luggage, plus a baby and toddler.....
If you can get the quinny zapp onto the plane as hand luggage - DO IT!!
