Ethernet connection

I am trying to use a homeplug mains distribution system. The system works well until I connect the desktop computer to the plug which I know works correctly as my laptop connects with the same ethernet cable. When the cable is plugged into the ethernet port on the desktop control panel / network connections shows the cable as unplugged. The devices section in control panel shows the nvidia nforce networking card ( built into the motherboard) and driver is working correctly.
I am guesssing the ethernet connector must be faulty - any advice appreciated.
As a second step can I use a pci ethernet card to replace the onboard connector - would I have to disable the port on the motherboard in the Bios.
many thanks in advance

It could be the speed/duplex settings on your desktop.
When your laptop is plugged in check what the connection speed is. (i'd guess it'd be 100mbps)
Then connect your desktop and see what its set to, if its fixed try changing it to auto, or try setting to the other settings and see if it connects.
Some devices aren't to happy connecting to with auto.
As to the other part, you dont have to disable it, but it would be 'tidyer' if you did.0 -
Sorry for being numb, but what is the homeplug mains distribution system? Will you link an example, because i have neverf used one before. Is it a router/moden kit? What os are you running on the laptop and the desktop?0

you may have to try holding down the reset button on the Router end , then go to the PC end and do the sameEx forum ambassador

many thanks in advanceAfter the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0
