tiling over tiles

hello

is it possible to tile over existing tiles in my bathroom? I have heard there are good adhesives allowing me to do this now.

yes it is possible. however ive never tried it. i would always remove the old ones first.

A lot of us tile on tile, if the original tiles are sound , gives a nice flat surface.
In an older house, taking tiles of 'might' uncover all sorts of problems.

Can hear some experts, take off all tiles , make good walls retile, but I live in the real world:rolleyes: Just check window revels/ door trim etc, before starting
  • my ex boss did this, and he said, a tiler told him to scratch the original tile surface with a wire brush, to help the adhesive to stick better. It worked for him the tiles are still up 5 years later HTH
Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

No problem tiling ontop, make sure they are well De-greased and a good tile primer is used( not pva).
  • thanks for the quick replies.

someone is going to be doing the tiling for us. when he suggested this i was a bit doubtful but he is a proffessional tiler and plasterer and does it all the time. (if the tiles are sound to start with!) I was figuring if he was trying to get more money he would have suggested taking the tles etc off so he could charge us for the plastering.

it will keep my hubbie happy as no tile removal for him!!!!
