Yet to be informed of Price increase

I got a letter today (31/10) dated "October 2008" informing me that my gas prices (Brithish Gas tracker discount) have been increased from 30 July 2008.
I make that 13 weeks and 2 days. Can they do this?
I'm assuming they didn't put an actual date on it, just the month? I would have a word with Consumer Focus regarding the technicalities but it woudl seem they are outwith the regulator-enforced time period. Really, if an energy company can't inform ALL its customers of a price increase within 13 bloody weeks of it coming into force, maybe they have far more customers than they can adequately cope with?Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Correct, the letter is dates "October 2008" no mention of a date.
With a bank holiday in August, I make that 66 working days after the increase, but with no proof that the letter arrived today, not yesterday, I guess I'm on a loser.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If there are no penalties involved, why not stick it to them and switch to SP through Quidco or cashbcackings for £62, then inform BG of you not agreeing to the price increase, the switch to SP and request to be charged at the OLD rates until the switch is effected? You can always transfer back to Click 6 when the cashback is in your account. Especially with the high-usgae season upon us, the cashback and the savings made by paying the old rate for a couple of months can add up to a very tidy sum indeed! 'Tis what I've done:

Good idea, but I can't leave without penalties.
How is that? There should be no penalties unless it is fixed or capped.
Of course, there are annual direct debit discounts but they are always a gamble and never guaranteed - you lose them regardless of when the price changes or when you are informed.
Is the penalty really larger than five months without the 35% premium?0 -

Make sure you move to Click 6(if you are staying with BG) as the tariff is cheaper than Click 5 new prices.
Actually it is not cheaper than Click 5 for me, as an economy7 user, though it will be for most people, so check carefully dor your own usage before deciding to change0 -

That is interesting.
For my area Click 6 is exactly the same for the night rate(5.142p) and marginally cheaper for both Tier 1 and Tier 2.
It would appear that the economy 7 rate on both Click 5 and Click 6 is exactly the same for all regions. but some regions are cheaper on Click 5 for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Click 6 is cheaper in other areas on Tier 1 and Tier 2. the differences are small either way.

It seems that for 'normal' electricity Click 6 is cheaper in all regions, but by small amounts in some areas and quite substantially in other ares. It is also cheaper for gas in all regions -(excluding discounts)0 -

Its a 10% discount off their standard prices for gas and electric, plus a credit for joining them plus a dual fuel discount. Downside is I had to sign for a minimum of 12 months. At the time, it worked out cheaper than click5.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
