Hi,
I am currently an MBA student in a London university. I am an asian and have left 33% remaining to pay to the university. All banks and studentselect refuse to give me a loan because all of these resources require at least 3 years uk resident.
Do you think I have any chance in getting one from somewhere because I am desperate in completing my mba this year. Loan amount is somewhere around £4,000.
Will appreciate any help. Thanks.

first place to start is the university - speak to the SU, they'll probably be in a good position to offer advice as they'll be used to it. there also may be "hardship grants" or other funding available depending on your circumstances0
-
That was my first conclusion to talk to the registry and confirm any grants. I will need to confirm earliest on Monday but I am already not too confident about it.
Any other solutions?0 -
You say that you are Asian - are you a UK resident?
If you have come here from abroad do you not have a Bank in your country or family that will or can help out?0 -
You are right, I am from Asia and yes I do have family that atm can't help out. I was here to do MSc in Business and later transferred to MBA. Unless I can come up with enough funds I will be alright otherwise I am gonna jump back to MBA. This is the most critical decision of my life so I wouldn't want to do MSc if I can get some help and do MBA. MSc is fully paid for but MBA isn't, thats why all the hassle.
No banks do credit check otherwise I would have gotten a loan earlier. StudentSelect couldn't help either.0 -
If you cannot afford to continue are you allowed under the terms of your visa to work here?
Is it possible to put back the course for a year for you to earn the funds either here or back home?
I can see why no british bank will lend to you as you have no roots here, you could leave the country at any time leaving a debt behind.
You have replied that your family can't help but what about Asian banks back home? Do they not have similar schemes to help student/graduates?
Would a prospective employer be willing to sponsor you??0 -
There are products available specifically for this sort of situation and your university will know about them. I can't recall them off the top of my head but i will check for you when i get to work tomorrow - we've had several emails recently about how to help overseas students since they are over 50% of our students.Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0

Hi,
Thank you both for your replies. Yes I am allowed to work in UK but the university hours are pretty stressful and I am not able to get 'anytime' for part time work. Yes I can have a gap and resume my course next year but I am not willing to have one, just looking for means in continuing my course this year.
I wish there could have been any support from my home/country/bank but unfortunately there isn't. At this time I just hope that some bank start doing credit checks making life much easier and I can focus on my studies.
Yes a prospectus employers will be able to finance and within a few days I will be contacting one.
frugglewump, that would be great if there are any schemes for MBA students. I have talked to top staff in the university and they are unable to give any relaxation or able to provide any schemes related to my course. There is support available at many places for E.U. countries but for asian countries there isn't.
On Monday I will be contacting with the university registry and will keep you posted for any developments.0 -
Well I finally got a reply from the International Student Support office here. It seems the help I was remembering is to do with students who have an account with a bank in their home country and getting branches here to talk to the home branch and proving student status. Not at all helpful to your situation - sorry.
They are still looking into hardship funds for non-EU studentsStill wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0 -
Whatever you do keep in close contact with the University. They are more than likely to help you if they know you well. Always keep them updated and tell them the truth.
I did a basic google search ("overseas sudent MBA funding") and came up with this, which looks interesting. There really are so many grants around, but they are sometimes REALLY hard to find. If someone tells you "No" there are none that exist, don't believe them and ask the next person. Do a trwal of the net.

Good Luck with it all.
PS. I am sure there are better educational websites around than mse that will know more than us?0 -
I doubt there would be any better forums about student financing beside this one.
Thanks for ALL the help guys, and yes I will stay in touch in the university because atm it is my best friend. Again, thanks! :T0
