  • Lovely, I wonder if you could use alternative yarns? I haven't heard of Yoeman Yarns.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Thank you wonder if anywhere does knitting lessons, I love the little black cardi :D
  • You can order Yeoman yarns from their web site. Thanks for the patterns - I love the first one and it will be ideal to go with jeans this winter. There is a book called Knitting for Dummies OR some Starbucks in Tescos have a 'knit and natter' group - you might be able to get some lessons there. i went to the one in boston when we were on holiday and it was a riot. Love the scarf - one way to use up all the odds and ends in the cupboard.
  • There's loads of knitting out there! Try knitonthenet.com, or getstitchy.com. And have a look in the library, they have knitting books for all levels. It's a lot easier than you think, and great for winter evenings!! Charity shops always have bags of needles, but you have to ask for them, then search through for the right sizes. A needle size checker is handy - it's a little square of plastic with holes in for the diameter of different needles - just poke the needle through to see what size it is.
  • If you have an old fashioned wool shop near you, ask whether there's a local knitting circle. These are informal groups where people get together to knit and generally have a gossip. Alternatively, your local library might be able to point you in right direction for lessons.
  • Have just given up smoking so have started knitting again to keep my hands occupied. A friend gave me some wool and a pattern for something that she's not got around to knitting herself. Couldn't believe price of knitting book - it has five or six patterns and cost £5.45!!! so many thanks for this link. Quite fancy the little bolero so might give it a go.

Nice selection of freebie patterns on this webiste and they keep adding to them.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it hard to get motivated to make things up once finished? Have been knitting since I was 6 yrs old and it hasn't got any better with age :rotfl::rotfl: :rotfl:
  • Thanks very much for these - scarf would make a great present.

If you can get hold of a copy of Stitch and !!!!! the knitters handbook by Debbie Stoller you'll be clicking away in no time!
Although it's American the instructions are really clear and easy to understand with helpful diagrams.

    Knitting's cool!

Yes I have this problem, along with almost finishing knitting a garment. You know, knitting the back, 2 fronts and one and a half sleeves of a cardi, etc. Trouble is as I'm knitting one thing, my head is already onto the next project: so many patterns and yarns, so little time! To get around this I have knitted some garments recently that are all in one piece or the back and fronts are knitted as one. The bolero featured would be ideal! Also teaching myself to crochet (age 51) as it seems to lend itself more to freeform garments. Loads of free patterns on internet sites with fewer pieces. May be of help.
  • Does anyone have or know where I can get a pattern for knitted coathanger covers? I saw some a while back on a craft stall with animal heads etc and would like to knit some for Christmas presents and church fundraising. Any help would be much appreciated.
