All these new features on AVG8.0 are such a nusiance, tying up pc resources for hours
Why couldn't it just be like AVG 7.0 - just do the virus scan , and then shutdown.
AVG 7.0 ran for an hour - AVG 8.0 - 3 hrs - so not impressed !
Is there anyway - to shut off the 'extra' scanning ??

Did you try the slider to max? It has 3 settings, virtually idle, normal, and fast (using most of the computers resources to scan)
As for settings, there ARE settings but after just looking I really dont recommend changing them ~ sorry:idea:0 -
thanks - 4 yr swift reply . Its on mid setting - and significantly slowing everything else down
think its time to try other software - might try avg forum first - will come back0 -
I was a big AVG fan but have now switched to Avast - I now prefer it and it runs happily in the background nice and efficiently0

yeah, if your computers not a fast one it does use a lot of resources. My 3 gig dual core barely registers, but my 2.2 gig single core on xp did struggle at times for sure:idea:0 -
Read up a few posts on AVG forum - phew ! ......and i thought i has something to gripe about ... a guy there reports 5 hrs for AVG 8 and 1.5 hrs for AVG 7.5 !
I have been using AVG for years - definitely time to switch
Thanks Bob - will check out Avast0
