What do to with unused rail ticket?

My sister came to visit me and I bought her a return from London-Nottingham (saver return, so she could get on any train, £50), but due to the engineering works on bank holiday Monday and our travel plans she caught the train back to London from Oxford instead, leaving me with the return part of her ticket unused.

I know that I am not allowed to sell the ticket, but I am not sure about the rules and amounts of a refund.
I cant seem to find much info on the website other than that the ticket is refundable.
If I try to refund the return portion and they want to charge me for a single, I dont think I'll get much back.
Does anyone have any idea how much I would get back if I tried to refund the unused ticket portion?

Any suggestions (apart from take an impromptu trip to London in the next month) on what I can do?

You won't get anything back - a saver single is usually only about £1 less than a saver return and there's a £10 (I think) admin fee.

Strictly speaking you can't use it yourself, either - it's not transferable. But they've no way of telling.

i would just use it. tickets are normally valid for 1 month i think unless it was a dated day return.
