I once tried wiping a video tape with a large magnet from an amplifier speaker (which I had been led to believe would work by a certain soap opera  ) but it didn't

How about re-mastering the computer from scratch? I had to do that once, on my old W98. There are two master CDs, to be inserted one after the other according to instructions. The hard drive is wiped clean, then the factory settings are reprogrammed into it, and no trace of any previous activity remains.

    Happy to stand corrected, though...
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
