NEXT: Sale Prices

Just to add to the above, Frizz_Head's comment also rings true for alot of stores - I've worked in diff stores where both styles have been used.
Also, if you ask the staff to put full price items on hold for you before the sale you can't go in and buy them when the sale starts at the cheaper price. The day before the sale they will clear the "hold rail".
Also, dont try and return anything during the first couple of days of the sale - there will prob be notices saying they wont do refunds etc as they're just too busy. The sale always used to start at 9am but due to ridiculous amounts of people turning up, they've opened earlier and earlier - chances are this year it will be 5am or 6am.
Best bet is to check the prices to see what's in the sale and then get down there asap on the opening day.0 -
my some what biased opinion is" does that mean that the service will get even worse" ive stormed out on a few occasions as i was in a long que waiting to be served and yet there were "hip young things chatting away doing !!!!!! all" strangly wont be seeing me in NExt sale!!!

I always always avoid the Next sale on the 1st day. Always full of people with armfulls of clothes that take an age to get through the till. I always pop in on the following day - late afternoon, when the stock has been refreshed (they never put it all out on first day - shoes always go out on 2nd day) and it is usually calmer.
It is also a good idea to pop back on days 4 onwards - after all the returns have been done.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Used to work for Next in many stores over the country. Pencil tip on the back is right, with and without "00" either end.
Also the policy regarding saving stock depends on the store manager, and size of store
The hold rail is meant to be cleared, but mgrs discretion if staff and family/close friends of staff have it put by.
Sometimes the mgr allows staff to buy after store closed on Xmas eve(this is as a thank you to staff for working hard for Sale prep)
Yes it does pay to know someone, or get a temp job, or better still if you have a teenager that wants to earn some Xmas cash, send them to get a xmas job and they can save stuff for you! They always need loads of staff over Xmas, some only for about 2-3 days with 4 hr shifts.
If you want to go on the 1st day then you have to be prepared to get there early and to wait in queues. They do have some of the best sales on the high street. If you can't bare the queues then don't go first day, go 3 or 4th day of first week, or hold off until about 7-10 dyas when the further reductions kick in. These are not just the odds that are left, but sometimes stock sent in especially for sale! Slow selling stock during the normally prices often gets sent back to warehouses, and then return at rock bottom prices.
Another tip, that's quite cheeky, stock usally carries a sale swing tag, but check inside on the size label, or care label for a permanent red marker dot. If they've forgotten to red dot then it appears as if you have payed full price! If you decide to return the item after the sale you could say you bought it as an Xmas pressie but paid full price. You won't get a refund, but may get vouchers or an exchange to value of the original full price. Do returns 7-14 days after 1 st day.
A final note, i did 12 long years of sales and it's hard work, please dont shout at the staff, they've probably worked until very late Xmas eve when you're having a drink in the pub! Then have to be back in very early to be there smiling for the hoards of hungry bargain hunters. Can get very ugly, once had to separate two women fighting over the same pair of shoes! ;D
Sales are great, but go with a smile and loads of patience as well as very sharp eye and quick grabbing hand:)
I'll stop waffling now (sorry) just couple more tips, subscribe to Next.com and they send you an advanced list of markdowns. Also have in mind the higher price items that you like e.g coats, suits etc these always go first as they''re best savings.
Hope some of this waffle was useful.Nice to save.0 -

Thanks for that but regarding the cheeky tip:
This happened a few times for me but I was told it was fraudulent (from other people). Further the last time I returned an item without a red dot, the sales assistant said she could only give me the sale price, not the full, even though I had bought it for full price and it was in the current directory, but seems like it had gone down in price during their one day sale. They are definetly tightening up
as im sure they know that people return sale stuff in exchange for full price vouchers!! 0
