NEXT: Sale Prices

As the Next Xmas/New Year sale almost always starts at 6am on Boxing day, the staff have to start labelling up those items going into the sale early. This usually takes place in the week leading up to Xmas. They can't stick sale tags on the items as that's too obvious, so they write the new price in pencil on the back of the price tag! If an item is £30 and will be half price, chance are the number on the back will read 14 (as in 14.99).
Unfortunately you can't buy it at that price until it goes into the sale, but it does help if a) you're looking for presents and realise the item you're about to buy is going to be halved in price within a few days, or b) you're going to go sale shopping and want to see what will be available.
I used to work for Next and they still do this, so it's worth checking the tag before you buy.
:P

Thanx for that tip moose ;D0

That's a blinder of a tip moose thanks very much, those of you planning to take advantage would do well to purchase on your credit card prior to Christmas and claim the difference back under the card terms once the items become available in the stores! Martin has a thread on this and it was big tip a couple of weeks ago in newsletter check it out for yourselves to see if your particular card offers the deal.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

A friend of mine used to work as 'casual' labour on the first day of their sale. This involved standing at the door handing out bags and watching the queue. She used to manage to get away with just doing the first morning.
Two big advantages
a. they paid her £25 for the shift.
and
b. staff had the opportunity to have first choice from the sale before the doors opened to the public. Most things in life are easy it's just doing them well that's difficult !!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine also used to work there, and told me the 'trick' about writing the sale price on the reverse of the label. In 'her' store, the price was written in pencil with two zeros in front, so if it was £6.49, it was written as 00649. When I used to go in on Christmas eve, practically every item used to have the 'code' on the back.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

And if you do go to the Next sale, please don't get mad at the assistants. I used to work there, and it is not their fault if you can't try it on/find the size you want/jump the queue etc.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Good post but 2 things :-
How do you claim back under the terms of your credit card (see above)
Is there a link to Martins thread?
How can you prove the items you bought before the sales where actually in the sale itself, I presume ou would need proof to back your claim. I know they mark the price tags on the reverse but try telling that to the credit card company!!Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
I was just looking at Martin's article, and the I don't think you'll be able to claim the difference back. It only works if you see the goods in a different shop priced lower, not the same one. :'(0

Yes, I checked this out too :'(
I even tried buying stuff back (bought before sale full price then returned after the sale had started) and the sales assistant just glared at me and said no way! :-[0
