Abbey Bank Charge

Hi
My friend has gone overdrawn by £1.30 and has no overdraft, there is going to be a charge of just over £30 for this. She has tried to stop this from being taken but they said as she has already claimed back 1 bank charge within the past 12 months (the only bank charge she has ever had) so this is not possible.
Someone else said that banks are no longer allowed to charge this much and something was mentioned about the government setting a £12.00 charge for going overdrawn.
Does anybody have any further info on this, or any ideas on how to get this charge reversed?
thank you T

Has your friend paid back the £1.30 yet?
As of yet, theres no governement maximum as to what the banks can charge (I think) so this is perfectly within their limits.
If it was me, I'd probably phone up and appeal to their common sense side, and just say that they can see it was an accident. If they refuse ask for a manager and threaten to take your business elsewhere, especially if they've had the account a long time.0 -
she done that and a manager refused to spk or call bk, she had over £1000 into the account the very next day of it going overdrawn.0

Tell her to vote with her feet. There are other banks who will happily take her business and even some who give a bonus for joining. The Alliance and Leicester will give you £100 for opening a Premier Current account and the only requirements are it needs £500 a month paid in and you have to be over 21.

There are others banks who do similar offers.0 -
That's really good, I'll pass on that link, I think her income is about £1400 pr mth.

Banks will take her business, but there is no bank in the land, that will not charge for going over the limit.
If your friend is not better organized, she will soon run into the same problems with her new bank.
Maybe your friend is the one that ought to change.0
