Web hosting

Options
Hi guys. I'm looking for advice on web hosting. I'd like to set up a website with mainly static content to begin with but hopefully have some kind of online shop and other useful stuff in the future. I'd like to do it as cheap as possible as I doubt I will make any money from this for a long time.

I've searched the web but there are so many options. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Yep, if you do a search of this forum you'll find about a billion threads all asking the same thing :D
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I knew absolutley nothing two months ago but have now started my own website ( www.discoverchester.co.uk ) using a combination of online resources and books from the library. I bought my domain name and web hosting seperately from www.123-eg.co.uk for about £10 and my web hosting from www.asmallorange.com ( i took their Tiny package which cost me $15 for 3months). Other than time, that is all i've spent. However, i would recommend that you do some research to find what suits you as there is lots of options out there. I found a good online resource to be www.thesitewizard.com with links to free software such as NVU. Hope this helps. Why not take a look at my site www.discoverchester.co.uk
  • Try Geekdata.co.uk or a2b2.com

Both are UK based which will give you very good speeds, both have amazing support times, i know geekdata.co.uk uses gzip compression which will save you bandwidth and make your site load even faster.

Both are not 'Cheap' but are reliable.

daveyd, I would recommend you review your choice of font size for your website headings. I don't know if it looks lovely on Windows IE but on Linux Firefox it's massive. Really massive!

Not entirely on topic so sorry about that.

It's certainly not as bad in IE, but I'm running FF on Windows and it displays just the same as yours on Linux. HUGE fonts.
