Recently my mouse doesn`t work from time to time. It has an led display that turns off when not working.

A balloon pops up saying that an usb device is incorrectly working. Any ideas please?

Wired or wireless? If it's wired there's probably a broken wire in the cable.

An alternative, whether it's wired or wireless, is that the usb port isn't supplying enough juice for everything connected to it. Are you using the mouse through an unpowered hub?

Further to what I have said the problem seems to be that from time to time ( how can I explain) I get the sound when you disconnect hardware. The mouse doesn`t work, and then the sound when windows recognises hardware and the mouse works. Does that make sense lol?

Get yourself a new one. You can get a new mouse for a few quid and its not worth the effort of living with a duff one. If you have a local computer shop then I'd go there or else just order one online.

Sounds even moore like weegie.geeik says, damaged / broken cable, hence the intermittant connection / disconnection. If you play around with the cable you may be able to make the connection dis-connection at will. If you have another computer to try it on you could, otherwise I'd get a new mouse
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

also try it in another USB port - just incase the port itself is faulty..

  • It will be the cable about 1cm out from the mouse. Open mouse and repair cable, you can solder the wires directly to the circuit board.
