joint care

Morning all

can someone please let me know where the cheapest place to buy dog joint care chews is. either on-line or shop, but in Scotland
My 7 1/2 yr old yorkie cross poodle seems to be getting a bit stiff.
Someone suggested breaking a cod liver oil cap over her food [iams] but she won't look at it.

thanks in advance

I presume you mean the Pedigree Joint Care chews?

The active ingrediants are Glucosamine, Omega 3, green lipped mussel and Methionine.

There are lots of things you can give dogs to help with arthritis; a common one is Glucosamine Chondroitin which you can buy in powder, granule, tablet, or liquid. In the long term it might be cheaper to get one of these? There are loads available - some cheap, some expensive. Always calculate how much it will cost you per week/ month etc as the doses vary!

If you go online to the Pedigree site they will give you £6 off 6 weeks worth (I think its vouchers).

Can't help you with places to buy from I'm afraid, unless you are coming to Guernsey for a holiday? :D
  • No help with the chews sorry, but I chuck my dog a starflower oil or evening primrose oil capsule every now and again, and she eats it no problems, but then she doesnt like to miss out on anything that might be food! (especially anything catch-able - she will eat anything if you lob it in the air!!)

I also give her a tin of oily fish every now and again, (both of these are for the omega oils) which she loves. As gemmaj says you can also buy the Glucosamine Chondroitin cheaply from the chemists.
  • My dogs are on pets at home senior dog food which has the joint care included in the food.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are different substances - the cheaper products tend to be Glucosamine only, the more expensive ones include Chondroitin, manganese and ascorbic acid. Most human glucosamine products are also Glucosamine Sulphate, whereas most dog ones are Glucosamine Hydrochloride (HCl). This gives a different pattern of absorbtion so you cannot guarantee that your dog is getting the right dose. Plus a human dose for a Yorkie is way too much. There are cheaper versions of doggy Glucosamine supplements and are better for your money. Pedigree Joint Care is one of the more expensive ways of getting Glucosamine into your dog
