Car Clamping

Not sure if anyone has any advice but I would appreciate some.
I woke up one morning to find my car had been clamped.
Having telephoned the number on the sticker I found out that this was for an unpaid parking ticket which was issued by Portsmouth City Council over a year ago.
I enquired as to why I had not received any letters or any correspondence regarding this, and they said they had written to me at my old address. They said they had gotten the address from the DVLA yet I had immediately informed the DVLA when I moved.
The council knew where I lived because we are on the electoral register and pay Council Tax at our new house, yet they persisted in sending letters to our old address.
Apparently the case had been to court without my knowledge and they had issued a notice.
So an £80 parking fine becomes £590 which included interest and an unclamping fee.
Do I have a case against them, and if so, how do I go about appealing.

Why didn't you pay the original parking fine?0

As above, assuming a ticket was slapped on the windscreen you knew you had an outstanding offence. Possibly you thought moving house would confuse them
Sounds like it's misfired:rolleyes: . If that's not the case then sorry.
I don't see much of a case for appeal if they issued the parking notice correctly in the 1st instance.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
If the parking ticket was issued after you told DVLC your new address then I think you’ll get you money back on appeal.0
