Duty free included in Ryanair baggage?

Sorry for another Ryanair thread - I can't find the answer to this anywhere!

I am flying from Stansted with Ryanair and will only have one cabin bag - no checked in baggage.

I looked at their website info re 'no checked in baggage' and it says that all your items must be contained in your one cabin bag - I know that means your laptop, handbag etc, but does it also include anything you buy airside?

It does say that it includes duty free in the 'one bag' rule.

I am not packging any shampoo/lotions etc as my plan was to buy it all at Boots Stansted airside. But, will it all get confiscated when I go to board at Ryanair?

Any one know more?

Thanks in advance

Anything you buy airside you can take on with you as extra to your standard carry on baggage.

Also its not dutyfree as you will be paying tax on it.

Once you are through security I have had no problems with what I have bought airside. I have boarded Ryanair flights with a carrier bag of books and another with crisps/drinks/magazines in addition to my hand luggage.

yes thats correct about "duty free" inside the cabin bag as you have read, but its 99.9999% certain that nothing will get confiscated at stansted, its security staff that are the handbag police not the gate staff

nothing to worry about at all

Not strictly true as Ryanairs carry on baggage allowance is less than the DFT approved size, which BAA enforce, and ryanair also have an interest in refusing people on to flights with oversized carry ons as you would then need to pay to check it in. I have witnessed this occuring on very few occasions but, by all accounts, the people were taking the rise.

Anyway regarding your duty free again as long as you arent going for it, ie bags and bags of stuff you will be fine, however if you are doing a return leg we do have a shop and collect service at stansted, so you can leave your goods at the shop and pick them up when you arrive back, this would be wise if you are going to buy perfumes etc.

  • Thank you so much for all your advice. By the sounds of it I should be OK as I will just have one bag of toiletries and one of magazines/bottle of water.

    You have excelled yourselves!:T

No problem there is a new website out called duty free on arrival so you can buy online and collect it when you get there...much easier and saves all the hassle with carrying bottles and paying fines.

I had a cabin bag of 9kg and bought a bottle of drink at the 'duty free'. It did fit in my bag, but the weight of the bag (with the bottle addition) exceeded 10kg. I had to leave the bottle before boarding a plane or to pay a £40 fee. It wa at the Stansted aerport

Be careful with Ryanair, I believed that the duty free items could be brought on board, regardles of 10kg hand baggage allowance. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Read the T&C, you tick to say you have done before you can book!

Please note that your (handbag, briefcase, laptops, shop purchases camera etc must be carried within your permitted 1 piece of cabin baggage. Checked baggage will be matched against the passenger list prior to loading.
