Has installing skype effected your security?

I'm thinking about installing skype onto my computer and also my daughters laptop so that we can keep in touch while she is away at uni. The only thing is, I'm not 100% sure about security, as we both use our computers for banking I want to be sure that skype doesn't install spyware or any other nasties.
I have checked and found one or two concerns, but have had to search hard to find anything negative. Has anyone installed skype and then had problems with security?

My background is computer security and I am quite happy installing Skype on my Mac (previously on PC). I have had Skype on Windows and Mac since it was in early beta. I haven't had any security problems and use it several times a day - mostly for instant messaging, occasionally for SkypeOut and video calls. It is great software, I recommend it.0
