Superdoupa new Tom Tom?

Erm your eyes?
Example.
A local roundabout used to be
Left lane - Left and straight on
Middle - straight on
Right lane - Right only
It was recently resurfaced and the signs changed
Left lane - Left only
Middle - straight on
Right lane - Right and straight on.
Your average TomTom user gets to a roundabout like this, with his original maps loaded to his TomTom, the TomTom gives an incorrect instruction that he can use the left lane to go straight on which results in him cutting up the middle lane.
Enough people can't read the signs and arrows to understand the road layout without a box of tricks shouting incorrect information at them.
Theres an A road (can't remember the number of it, but it runs from Kingston outwards into Surrey, past Chessington).
On it is a 5 road roundabout, (no visable road markings to determine lanes you need or none that you can see in heavy M25 area traffic). Quite high trees either side of the road & close to the road.
So I personally would guess left lane for first two turn offs, middle lane for 3 one - straight across (& maybe 2 & 4 too) & right hand lane for 4th & 5th.
I was taking the 2nd turn off, so I used the left hand lane. But only when you've choosen that lane & reach the top do you realise that ALL left hand lane traffic feeds into motorway ONLY.
My DH uses that road sometimes & after I got caught out with it & was moaning to him about the lack of road markings, he said yes he knew the exact roundabout, he said the amount of people who get caught out with that one there is loads & there are always near misses because of it.0 -
Ooo MrsE
If you had said before what the purpose for his new toy ie to help him with his work then perhaps you wouldn't of been perplexed by the comments others have made.
Sorry a cabby doesn't make you the best driver in the world, I'm sure your DH is a very competent driver.
Didn't actually think it was necessary to justify my purchase:rolleyes:There is a bit of debate about satnav's / tom toms and such gadgets are a bit of a money waster and a fad.
I prefer the maps and road sign version if you can read a road sign that hasn't has bushes and tress overgrown.
See its like this, one day he could take someone to Oxford, then Portsmouth, then Kent, then Bath. He would need a mini trailer on the back for all the maps he would need. And not just the basic ones, he would need the town street maps too.I have a m8 that never leaves the house without his, i asked him one day what did he do before they were invented, his reply was never left the city.
The day after i passed my driving test i was on motorways heading for a beach with my son as my helper with road signs etc, i just concentrated on being a good driver on the road.
Personally i just don't understand why hundreds of drivers who need to rely on a little box stuck to your screen telling you where to go. how about looking out of the windscreen that should help.
When you do 50k plus miles a year & go all over the South & middle of England, its pretty hard to know everywhere:rolleyes:0 -

I've been a tomtom user for years now, and swear by it (i used to be a field service engineer driving round fixing computers and stuff)

i've still got a V2 tomtom one (used to use TTmobile) and it isnt until something like these new units come out that i'll consider upgrading...0 -

Thanks to Goldspanners I've now found out its all the 30 series that have this new stuff.
The Go 530, the Go 730 & the Go 930. So if your looking for one of these look for the 30.0 -
The x40 series has just been announced, will probably be hitting the shops in a few weeks. I have IQ routes installed on my 720 and it honestly doesn't seem to have made any difference to the old maps.
The x40 has a couple of interesting features: a new dock, which should mean less fiddling with cables, and more exciting there's an HD Traffic model which uses live traffic updates via a GSM mobile device built in. There's a £9.97 subscription charge after the three month free trial, this could be good for professional drivers and I'll certainly give it a try.
