I have lost some of the sounds on my xp system. The sounds lost are the windows sound files (startup and shutdown chimes etc) The cd drive plays a music CD ok and also my AOL connection has sounds working.
I have checked the control panel/sounds and audio devices and everything seems in order.
Also if I am logged in has a different user the sounds are all working ok.
Any ideas please?

Have you looked in Start, Control Panel, Sounds & Audio Devices, Sounds Tab?

It's blank, I have also tried the windows default setting but it's still no sound.

    Sorry, I have a single user set-up here. :o

Have you tried saving a new sound scheme as it may be the sound scheme for that user is corrupted or not correctly associated with that user

Hopefully someone else will be able to help you.
