Options
ive worked out how to transfer the data from camcorder to pc using this disc. im trying t now create a dvd.

but am getting the following msg - this program supports writing to 8cm discs only in Handycam. To write to an 8cm disc select 'Handycam' as the destination drive.

Isn't it already a DVD? Can't you just make a copy onto a full size disc if necessary?
Unless of course your goal is to edit on a PC before creating a DVD Video disc.
DVD camcorders aren't designed for editing on a PC. You are expected to record to disk, edit on the camera, finalize your project on the camera and at best make copies of the DVD for sharing with other people
Ultimately, I found a simple solution to the problem, which works with both Adobe Premiere Elements and Nero Vision Express (which is part of Nero 7 Ultra Edition), but may not work with all software packages. I left the recorded video in an unfinalized state (later testing also worked with finalized disks) on the DVD+RW disk. I inserted the disk in the computer's DVD drive and copied the VOB file located in the Video_TS folder on the disk to my hard drive. Premiere Elements and Vision Express don't recognize VOB as a valid file type for editing. Without doing any file conversion, I simply changed the file extension from VOB to .mpeg. Both apps recognize MPEG as a valid file format and import the video for editing without issue. You edit the movie and then save out your finished file just like you would any other video project.

Renaming the file from VOB to MPEG won't work if you are using an app like Windows Movie Maker, which does not recognize MPEG as a valid editing format.

Can you now see why it is useful to include more detail in your original post. Such as the make and model of your Camcorder, details of your computer specification(Flying Windows key + Pause Break) and software in use? (barely disguised irritation) :)

    So let's try again. :)

Have you updated your version of PMB from the Sony Support website?

Are you capable of reading and replying to the whole of #4? Ignoring the bit that you don't understand won't help you. :p

Was that all of the info under the Flying Windows..... are you holding back for a reason?

If you don't want help just say so. This is not a guessing game.

The details under System and Computer(under Flying Windows + Pause Break) if you please and can you also tell me how much free space that you have on your C drive?. ;)

Also check which version of PMB that you have by opening the program and clicking on About.

The upgrade is here(make sure that you follow the Download and installation procedure. If you don't understand something, ask).

If you can't be bothered faffing around with the Sony Software, download the trial of Nero 8(without installing the ASK Toolbar. Also, de-select every option offered to take over your computer.

You can import the material to Nero under the Create and Edit tab and create a DVD Video disc using the built in Wizard.

A free option would be DVD Flick. Read the Guide carefully.

Maybe you can try the free solution first, then the 15 day trial.

On the PMB program, is there not an option to choose your HDD or DVD burner as the destination drive? You do have a DVD burner, don't you?
