ugh, how can i be insured for a couple of days on a car that is not mine?

I need to drive my mother's car to get it fixed at the garage, thing is it's an automatic and I've never driven one before. On top, I'm not insured and I'm just bit scared that the one time i take it out, something may happen. I need to get it out to the garage to get it fixed as she is unable to do so. This maybe a silly…
