To tile or not to tile? (kitchen)

Options
Am having a galley style kichen with hob and sink on opposite sides. Want to avoid tiling all round. I've found lovely (but pricey) glass splashbacks. Is it enough just to have 2 big splashbacks behind the sink and hob with the rest of walls being painted or am I missing something?

I saw a good idea in one kitchen I looked at. They had glass splashbacks that were screwed onto the wall, and they had put flashy wallpaper behind it. It was so easy to keep clean, just wipe it over, and when you get bored with it, you just swap the paper. When we had the tiles taken off in our kitchen it made a huge mess, and the wall was awful. When we decorated we kept to a few tiles behind the cooker and that was all, just to avoid the whole thing over again. Fashions change and you will get bored of whatever you put up in the end! Well, you will if you are like me!:rotfl:
:hello:  please play nicely children !
  • The splashbacks I've seen are glass with metallic effect background and I think would look stunning. Like you say if you get bored with the paint colour then that's easily changed! Presumably as long as the worktops are properly sealed in then paint on it's own should be ok.

My entire kitchen is tiles. Well...not entire kitchen. Anywhere that a piece of wall exists has a tile. Right up to the ceiling.

    And they are brown

And the floor is yellow tiles.

I've felt seasick for the last three years every time I go in there.

I say do the decent thing and go with as minimal tiles as possible.

As long as the paint you use is wipeable you'll be fine.

I sympathise with you Steel. There's lots of working if you want to change it.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'll go ahead with my plan I think.

Tell me about it. I desperately want to change it, but can't yet face the upheaval and utter mess.
