Sentinel Card Protection

How important is credit card protection (not payment protection) ? Am I wasting my money by insuring against loss of cards ? ??? ???

Comments

  • I would not wish to say anything about any particular provider and what I do myself might not be at all wise so just ignore what I say ...

but what I do is not go within a million light years of even considering card insurance as my card provided says that in all normal circumstances they will take the rap themselves as it is them that are defrauded and not me.

This is not financial or legal advice and may be entirely wrong.

  • Sentinel card protection service is useful if you happen to be away from home (say abroad) and your cards are damaged, lost or stolen. In addition to informing the credit card companies of your loss/stolen etc, they also provide other service such as emenergy 'loan money' , etc. Read their Policy for full covers and exclusions.

In my opinion a charge of around £12 p.a. is worth it for the convenience of just having to make one phone call to Sentinal, instead of many calls and you do not have to remember all the phone and card numbers in full!!

  • Sentinel are also useful if you carry around a number of credit/debit cards in your wallet. You then just have to phone one number to cancel all of them if your wallet's lost or stolen.

You can also record details of your passport & driving licence numbers with them too.

Write a list of all the cards and tel numbers you need and place copies in convenient places. Saves yourself £12 a year for perhaps the one occasion in your lifetime that you may need it. I've had credit cards for over 30 years and have never yet had an occasion when the insurance would have been of use.
  • :)Many thanks (diolch) for your replies. They have helped with my decision
