Does anyone know at what age you stop receiving a Motability car please?

    Hi,

Only two benefits give access to Motability cars - DLA High rate mobility and War Pensioners Mobility Supplement.

If on DLA, as long as you were receiving DLA High rate Mobility when you turned 65 you can continue to receive it as long as you still have mobility needs. You cannot make a brand new DLA claim once you are 65.

If you are on War Pensioners Mobility Supplement there are no age restrictions whatsoever as long as you still have mobility needs.

Thank you very much both, you have put my mind at ease.
  • Hi
My wife is now entitled to the higher element of DLA. My son suggested that it could be beneficial to us if we sold our car and took out a Motability lease. This I did and have reviewed costs etc; and they do look interesting. It looks good but unfortunately I have nothing to compare these prices with. I would appreciate your comments on this. Regards Ian

Mobility doesnt stop unless the walking problems improve.
If you look on the motability website it gives an idea of costs, some just ask for the Mobility Benefit some ask for deposits too. Financially youd have to work out wether it would be better receiving £46.75 a week and keep your car or using that money to get a vehicle through motability.

What we have found is that because we applied for a car as soon as I was awarded the HRM we don't miss the money and don't view it as coming out of our pockets. The great advantage is the peace of mind it brings you, knowing that (apart from any advanced payment) all that you are paying out is the petrol/diesel costs while you have the car.

That's exactly what my Dad done...he says if he has never had the money then he can't miss it.
