Cheers me dears,

The venue will presumably have some kind of entertainment licence, so you need to check how many people you can have in the room, and not oversell. In fact check (and re-check!) ALL the terms of the entertainment licence.
What are you doing for drinks? If you hope to have a bar selling alcohol, check your arrangements / the licence for this, rules very strict.
If it's a BYO alcohol do, life gets slightly simpler. But you do need to have plenty of soft drinks available.
Not a 'rule', but always good to state clearly on the ticket what is / is not included. EG £X including ploughman's, cash bar available, or £X including ploughman's and one glass of wine, cash bar available. Or whatever you are offering.
Worth doing a raffle on the night, IME, unless you're somewhere you can't, and if you only sell the tickets on the night then you can use cloakroom tickets. If you want to pre-sell, you are in a whole different ball game.
DO put a finish time, ideally half an hour earlier than the time the licence says noise must finish so that if you over-run you won't have the neighbours phoning environmental health. Make sure your band / caller know what your published finish time is, and encourage them to stick to it!
And from personal experience, again not related to 'the rules', check and double check you really have booked the venue, then check no-one has accidentally / allegedly cancelled it. And ditto the band ...
Then get out your dancing togs and enjoy! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'd second everything SS has said, but emphasise this point.if you only sell the tickets on the night then you can use cloakroom tickets. If you want to pre-sell, you are in a whole different ball game.
If you sell any tickets before the event, then you're into needing licences / printing tickets / legal requirements territory.
If you need more details, ask us..for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
Please can someone point me in the direction of the legalities if pre-selling tickets ?0

I found this which is an old post but I'm not aware things have changed.
Then this might be useful, although using a commercial printer who's used to doing raffle tickets should ensure you don't miss some vital detail!
I've got a memory of someone posting something more recently but can't remember who or where, but if it comes back to me I will add the link!Signature removed for peace of mind0
