Working away from home??

Hello all. Having posted this on the family boards, I've been directed in your, err, direction
, and while Dorset to Yorkshire is hardly in the same league as a 6 month deployment to Iraq, your comments would be greatly appreciated.
"Apologies if this is not quite MSE'ing but I'm just looking for advice mainly.
Does anyone on here, or their "other half", work away from home? Attempting to cut a long story short, , my reasons for asking are that my wife left me at the start of this year and I subsequently met a fabulous girl (on this forum, ironically) who's been incredibly supportive of me. Although I'm from Sheffield originally, I've been living in Dorset for the last 4 years so we made the decision that I would move in with her back up in East Yorkshire, which I did a few weeks ago. Sadly I couldn't find any work so I managed to get my old job back. As we've just got started on our new life, this is hardly the ideal situation. I dearly want to be up there with her but given the present financial climate, if I can't find work up there, I might end up working away and living in my motorhome during the week and going back home at weekends.
As I said, it's less than perfect. In fact it's ******* awful being apart like this  . Is anybody else in this boat and how do they cope with it?
Thanks in advance.
Martyn."

My hubby works abroad for 15 days and then has 15 off at home. We have a caravan so he stays in that. It's not ideal but you do get used to it and it's far easier than being together then rowing because there's not enough coming in to pay the bills0

My hubby is in the navy ,at mo we only see him weekends when he isn't duty and end of this year he is away for quite awhile:eek: will only see him for 9months out of 3 years  , i have been married to mr seas for 10 years ,known him for 13 ,and have 2 kiddie winks, you get use to it to be honest ! and look forward to the weekends:rolleyes2, Can be hard sometimes but makes you stronger i think and also your not doing each others heads in 24/7 lol :rotfl::DBck to driving lessons again  i need to finsh them this time !0

I agree with married to the seas... the times you spend together are extra special although I think it does put an added strain to some relationships (and some just can't take it) but for those that can it just makes the relationship stronger. My OH off to Afghanistan in a couple of weeks but expects to be back by Xmas!!! Just concentrate on the times you are together and make the most of it.True MSE'r -Money Spending Expert0

My OH is working away during the week and like the others said you do get used to it. We talk either on the phone every night or on Skype (on the pc) which is free! We don't argue, have been married for two years and together for twelve and he's always been going on detachments ever since we met.
We're really strong and appreciate each other more. The time we do have together and when we have it is never spent arguing, just making the most of the time we do have.0
