Funeral cost assistance?

Hello all, many years ago my mother in law was given assistance with funeral costs. Her husband at that time had no insurance to cover his funeral!
Does anyone know if this assistance is still available?
Thank you for any help.

I remember knowing someone who a couple of years ago lost her 11 year old son, and was not told she could claim something like this until it was too late. There was a set time period in which to put in your claim
Otherwise, social services or the council may know.0 -
You may get a Funeral Payment

My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Thank you saver, if I remember rightly, it was the funeral director who gave M in L this information.

Funeral payments information from CAB to supplement the CIS post.
Benevolent Societies You may find you are eligible for a grant from a benevolent society which may go towards the Funeral Payment which, most often, will not meet the full cost of a very basic funeral.

Hi
I was widowed 3 years ago and was entitled to a immediate payment of £2000 (not means tested) not sure if this is only available when your spouse dies.0 -
The widows bereavement payment is payable only for the death of the spouse.
