Cosmetics - broken promises

I'm tired of cosmetics that promise the world and then don't live up to the hype. What can I do?
I bought a Rimmel mascara from Superdrug the other week and it was rubbish. I chose it because of the big display that advertised, 'clump free, ultra-lengthening' qualities. The reality was the very opposite. I have never used such awful mascara.
I took it back to the store and asked for my money back and they looked at me like i was some kind of mentalist!
They said that there was nothing that they could do but as i insisted that the product was not fit for purpose they agreed to send it back to the manufacturer for 'testing'. I'm not really expecting them to actually get back to me though.
Was I right? Or am I a nut ball?

No, you are right. If you are not happy with a product then good customer service means they should refund.
I returned an YSL mascara which was pretty expensive cos it was rubbish and clogged my eyelashes together. They gave me another one in exchange but it was just the same. I wish I had then asked for a refund to be honest.
My brother once returned a CD to HMV. His reason? 'This is crap, can I swap it for something else?'. The assistant must have been impressed with his pure cheekiness that they agreed.0 -
Was it the red tube one? Because I bought that one a few weeks ago and it was bloomin awful - really clumpy and thick, made me look terrible as if i had piled 5 coats of it on when I had only put one on. Only used it twice and then bought another one, but it was like £7 or something down the drain.Money Saved for a house deposit so far = July 2008 £3331.09, August £4396.40, September £5,048.37 (Target = £9,000 by July 2009) 56% there already!:j
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me!0 -
I bought the black tube with pink stripe Rimmel a few weeks ago (on offer) and that was really pants too, proper spider lash effect.
In the end I bought Prestige Lashmatrix for £5 odd (should be £8) from Boots and I have never used a better mascara. I'm cackhanded and it still goes on a dream."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
Thanks for the replies money-savers. Yes it was the red tube one! Total pants.
As a cosmetics officianado, I reckon that the Max Factor Masterpiece - available only at Bootsies, is the duck's nuts (as they say in Australia!).
BTW, my husband returned a video to Blockbusters a few years ago because it was in the comedy section and it wasn't funny - they gave him a refund. Ha ha ha.There are three types of people in this world - those who can count and those who can't.0 -
I think its ridiculous how they make all these claims and then the model on the advert is wearing lash inserts!!
I have the black rimmel one, with a blue stripe though and that one is OK0 -
Sale of Goods Act
Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 traders must sell goods that are as described and of satisfactory quality.
If consumers discover that products do not meet these requirements they can reject them and ask for their money back providing they do so quickly. Alternatively, they can request a repair or replacement or claim compensation.
You have every right to reject itLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
Use Avon, they have loads to chose from, I've been buying them for years and they are great and nearly always cost around half price. (Well I buy them, when they are on offer) No, I'm not an Avon Rep! Love 'Astonishing Lengths', 'False Lash Effects', Super Full Lengths', Super Lashes Ever' they are all great. I bought Max Factor, 'Max Masterpiece MAX' and it was good but will only buy it when it's on offer!0

Who wants the Kate Moss-meets-tarantula look anyway?
Boots often give away small cosmetic packs as part of "spend £x on No 7" promotions which normally sit and rot in my make-up drawer...had occasion to use the Intense Volume sample one day (a mascara emergency of course :rotfl: ) and was pleasantly surprised with the results.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

One of the best ones I've had was from Avon, and I got it free with my foundation! It was a lash curling one, but don't have it to hand and can't remember the proper name for it."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

There wouldn 't be any advertising if they had to be truthful about most stuff out there. It's like Oxy that makes stuff whiter than white and Oxy plus is even better than Oxy (so Oxy is just rubbish then)...
It's like in photobrushed makeup adverts, there is no way you will ever get the same results. Using makeup is a question of trying and keeping to what you like... that's until it's discontinued unfortunately !0
