Hi squiggles,
Sorry to hear you're having problems, these things always seem to happen to me at the weekend too.
Have a look at this website, it has a section on washing machine repairs.

Had the same problem with my Creda washer a couple of years ago. Found that there was a sock stuck in the pipe which allows the water to drain away. Partner at the time had to take the back of the machine off to retrieve the sock. Advise get plenty of towels ready and a bowl. If you leave the machine turned off long enough the door will open. I;d advise you get a man in word of mouth for engineers. Good luck. PF0

Can you unhook the water outlet hose and drain the water from the machine into a bucket? At least you will be able to open the door to retrieve your clothes.

Well ive managed to drain the water by taking the draining hose off the pip and lowering it into a bucket, thankfully the washer door has now opened.
I looked ont he washer help and it tells me there might be something stuck in my pump. Ive taken the back off but im not sure what the pump is,done a search and cant find any pictures, does anyone know what a pump looks like please????0 -

Some examples here
Basically should have the drain pipe coming from it, try to trace it that way.0 -
Sounds like it's overloaded or theres something stuck in the pipe.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

On our old washer, if the filter became blocked over time - just by a 2p and then accumulated fluff - it would suddenly decide to stop midway through a wash. Always needed pulling out, back removing and pipe to pump removing. It was a pipe with an awkward crocodile clip which was a right pain to remove and replace. Modern washers tend to have these gubbins behind a flap in the front these days.0
