Do you know the make and manufacturer of your motherboard? If so please post so we can help you further. I have an idea of the answer but I'd like to double check before I tell you what it is.

Ok. Well it doesn't look like it makes much difference at all according to the Asus manual for it. However, if it were me then I'd put the two 512Mb sticks in the pair that are close together and the 128Mb in the single slot that's a little away from the other two. So put your 512Mb in the brown slot and the blue slot next to it and then the 128Mb in the other blue slot.

    Does that make sense?
  • I wouldn't bother putting in the 128MB one and instead put the 512MB ones in whichever slot the manual indicates for dual channel

If you take anewhope's advice then put the two 512Mb sticks in the two blue slots and leave the brown slot empty.

Thankyou, the slots are all equaly apart so I put the 512's in the blue slots and the 128 in the brown one and in properties it says 1.12mb of ram, I scanned with crucial and it says 2x512mb and 1x125mb is this ok?

I have also upgraded slightly a hp laptop which already had a 512mb in and a 256mb in, I just put another 512mb in and took the 256 out as the max recommended was 1gb but its saying in properties 960mb ram installed is there a reason for this?
    Thanx

Firstly, are you sure you don't mean 1.12Gb or RAM, not 1.12Mb? If so then it's all been recognised and all should be good.

Regarding your HP laptop. It is likely that the graphics hardware doesn't have its own memory so is using some of the main system memory. This is normal, don't worry about it.

Lady K you need to remove the 128mb stick

anewhope is right....by removing the 128mb stick and ensuring the two 512mb sticks are in the blue slots you will make it run faster because it turns on dual channel mode

By having the 128mb stick in your actually causing it to be SLLOOOWWWWWEERRR

i know it normally more equals faster but in this case its not like that
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
