Hi all,
I have just managed to get the following spec laptop from Dell for just £470:
It's a Studio 1535 laptop
Midnight blue microsatin finish cover (instead of standard black)
15.4" widescreen WXGA with TrueLife
8x DVD +/- RW Drive
Intel core 2 duo T5750 (2.0 ghz) processor
3gb RAM
250gb HD
256mb RADEON graphics card
Vista Home Premium with SP1
Not bad for £470, eh?
Something very similar in PC World is £700 - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@2007307656.1219919280@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadeemkejdfdcflgceggdhhmdfhk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=508082&category_oid=#productInformationSection
If you order that same spec laptop via the Dell website it comes out at just over £560, so I emailed them and asked if they could offer me any kind of discount.
Admittedly I am also buying 3 other slightly lower spec laptops for the kids (which I also got a £20 discount on, for each laptop) which probably helped my bargaining power, but it's got to be worth the price of an email if you're after a new laptop.
The guy at Dell has been ridiculously helpful and prompt in replying to my emails and it's obvious he works on commission as he really wants this deal.
I bought an Inspiron 1525 from Dell for myself back in April and I've had no trouble with it at all, it's a great laptop.
What have you got to lose?
Simon

Good to know.
Having (accidentaly  ) poured a cup of tea all over the laptop last night and waiting to put back together to see if it is retrievable post drying out, I may be looking for a deal.
One of Have is Inspiron 6400 bought couple years ago with loads of discounts/offers at time. Just looked on website and bit lost bay changes in names and specs:eek:
Moment of truth in a few mins (but putting off the inevitable I think). If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -
There are some good deals on Dell at the moment, like £50 off the Vostro laptops, and free postage. There's also a good deal at play.com for a core 2 duo Acer for £330:
