Itunes help!! Music gone?

Hello all,

I just woke up this morning, put my Itunes on to update my Ipod and it is completely blank?

No Music, nothing, the playlist I created is there but empty?

Im completely confused and annoyed its gone, I can put whats on my laptop back on there no problem but the Cd's that id put on have gone, Around 5000 songs just vanished?!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Now im concerned it will happen again and again?

Any clues would be great?!

Go to - Edit/Preferences/advanced

click the general tab which should show you the directory that itunes is looking at on your hard drive.

Check that directory using windows explorer and hopefully all your music will be there.

If so clck - File/add folder to library and select the folder on your hard drive where itunes has stored your music. This will reimport all your music. Its worth backing up this folder on a regular basis.

Before you do that, make copies of the itunes library.xml and .itl files, these contain all your meta data... much as ratings and playlists... :-D

Just had a quick go of what the first reply advised but there was nothing there, an empty folder called "compilations".

Im confused why it just vanished like that, but looks like its gone for good now.

So all yours music has vanished?

Find that very hard to believe...

Try pressing the windows button and F to bring up the search box and search for MP3/music files... they will be on your computer somewhere!

Hi, I find it as hard to believe as yourself,

I turned it on yesterday morning and Itunes was blank - completely, It had the playlist that I had created but nothing in it, Like I said I can just transfer all the music I have stored on my laptop back into it, but the numerouse Cd's Ive borrowed/used I cant get them back.

I recently downloaded "recuva" to find some deleted info from a memory card and I looked through the computer as well so is it possible that could have anything to do with it?

I cant see how but you never know when you try things, I definatley havent deleted any of the stuff though so I am perplexed.

ahhhh well, start again.
