What do i do now??!

I don't know what to do!

I just applied for a virgin credit card and the result came up as this:

Thanks for applying for a Virgin Credit Card.
To give you the best chance of being accepted, we'd like to confirm a couple of things. So if you could give us a call on 0800 0156 517 that'd be great. We're here 8am- 8pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am-5pm Fridays.

I'm going to ring them. But before i do, i just wanted some guidance.

Does that message above usually mean that you are going to be rejected or given a bad offer? Has anyone else had that message and had a good result from it?

Secondly, if i get rejected, I will have a credit card at 14.9% with 7800 onit. Should i carry on with paying off this card at this rate? Or should i apply for another 0% card right now? I don't want to muck up my credit report by doing 2 or 3 searches at once. But i'm paying high interest on my current card. Whats best do you think?

I have a bank loan of 16k and i'm worried this is the reason i'm not going to be accepted. So should i stick with my high interest card rather than muck up my credit report with a number of searches that will probably end up being rejections.

Thanks x

This message does not necessarily mean rejection, there may just be some points on your application that they want to check with you. Until you call them you just don't know.

If you are accepted, I suspect that they will use this opportunity to try and sell you some Payment Protection Insurance but, unless you want this, you can just politely decline.

    Thanks for your replies!

Called them and I got accepted!!! 5k limit so that clears most of the balance on my other credit card! So pleased.

Glad you got it! Sometimes it is as simple as your employer has changed its name and the card company doesn't yet 'recogise' the new name, for example.
  • I think it's great that a cc company would ask a prospective customer to contact them before approving a cc application. It shows that the cc company's doing its job properly - imagine if no checks were done and a cc was approved without any further questions, what if the application had been made by a fraudster?

How would you feel if someone stole your personal details and applied for a credit card in your name, and the cc company never checked back with you but simply said "great, here you go"?!
