Sticky label residue

I've removed a sticky label from a new silver microwave but the glue won't come off with water and washing up liquid. I know that white spirit easily removes glue but I'm reluctant to use it in case it ruins the surface of the microwave. Any suggestions please?

You can buy something called Sticky Label Remover - not sure where from though.

...............then you have to use 23 others things to get rid of the smell of the WD40 ! :D
  • Smear some peanut butter over it overnight. This dissolves the glue and you just wipe it off in the morning and clean it. Any oil/fat would work, but peanut butter tends to stay there and you do not end up in the morning cleaning it off the floor :)

Works magic! I use that all the time.

Any metal polish will remove it, no need to shake up liquid polish , just a spot of the carrier spirit on a cloth or kitchen roll will shift it instantly !

o.k. It's gone. Started with the baby wipe. No difference. Using the same baby wipe tried Rapeseed oil. Marginal difference, then tried Extra Virgin Olive oil, slight improvement. Metal polish, no difference. WD40 - slight improvement. Finally butter and after a lot of elbow grease (no pun intended) it disappeared. Maybe it was a combination of everything. Do the manufacturers really have to use such heavy duty labels? Anyway, I'm really grateful to you all for your advice. Thank you.
