Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition Question

Options
I have a trial version on my new laptop and am looking to upgrade to the full version. Amazon have two versions - one says its for Vista/XP and another versions says Vista/XP/Service Desk Edition (which is slightly more expensive). I only trouble is I can't see what the difference is.

What is the service desk edition and is it something worth looking at?

check these prices out for it.....OEM is normally cheaper as you can only put it on one computer (do you really need to put it on more??)

i bought the OEM of Vista ultimate (PC world as the time was 350 quid) i paid 90 quid......people say you get no support from microsoft....which is wrong you do

it just stops you from putting it on any machine
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

It says on Amazon: "Important Information: This edition of Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student should be purchased only in special bundle promotions where it is listed as one of the qualifying items. In all other circumstances, please purchase Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student, 3-user licence (PC)".

Something you should be aware of is that you can't use a student edition for commercial purposes.

Do you need to do anything that the free OpenOffice can't do? And do you really need three licences?

It doesn't seem unlikely that the OP will get a new computer at some stage.

but will he need the student edition of MS office when he does....either save some money now and buy the OEM or spend the larger amount and get the Full version and not use it when he's NOT a student any more

i was just giving him an option

It's licenced for student and home use. I read that as you don't have to be a student to buy a copy.

Bit of a hot debate going on here!!

I am not a student, but my understanding of the licence is that it is OK for anything other than business use, so home applications are fine.

And yes, we do need more than one licence - I have my own laptop, we have a family PC for the internet and another one in step-daughter's room (not connected to the internet) and we would want the same programme on all 3.

And I did notice the explanation on Amazon's site - I just wondered what the difference was between the normal version and the Service Desk version because I have no idea what the Service Desk Version means.

And as we use the home one for work files that use Microsoft, we would want the proper version and not the OpenOffice copy.

In that case there are 3 options.

1 - buy a fully licenced expensive version.
2 - get work to pay for it
3- get a licenced home media copy of the work one for £17
