Help. Penetrating damp from derelict neighbour! :j

hi, i have a problem with my property. my neighbouring terraced house is derelict, with a little amount of roof, lots of weeds and a whole load of water/ rain coming in. as you can guess i thus have a damp problem!
i can get into the house, as its been derelict for 15years. so i was thinking of spraying the party wall with a silicone based product to seal the water on the neighbours side.
or external render it?
any ideas, help or advice would be great.
tenants are moving out, new tenants have walked away, the council knows and has supposedly started the legal mumbo jumbo, but i cant wait anymore.
my house is getting very bad! :rotfl:
thanks mark.

  • Do you know who owns it? Whoever owns it may be held responsible under what is termed 'vicarious liability'
  • i just met with the council guy dealing with the neighbours hosue. he's serving notice today or tomorrow, so the owner has 2 months, then the council will tender it out. cant see it being a quick job though! going to be oct/nov before roofers' even see the tender, then dec to start work!?
any ideas to temporary seal the roof?
thanks for all ideas & help.

  • the only thing i could suggest for tempory sel of the roof is a tarporlin fastened to roof spars

  • what are roof spars? i was thinking of coragated plastic sheets, about 3, with some type of ridge tile. all weighted down or fixed to rafters.
  • roof spars /rafters .corrugated sheets would mean actually going on the roof which would be dangerous tarporlin you could fasten to side of roof and then at the other side as far as your sheet will allow from the loft space
