Bathroom paint and mould

We have a wet room as a family member is a wheelchair user. It has some kind of board with a sort of vinyl covering on the walls by the shower but the other walls are just painted. There is a lot of black mould on the painted walls and ceiling edge. Am going to clean as much off as I can and want to repaint but wondered if there is any kind of paint which makes it less likely that the mould will return?

TIA

Bathroom paint is made for this, I dont know if it holds back the mould, or stops it coming through, but here is a little tip before you re-paint.

Wash down the mould with diluted bleach, dont use neat, rinse, then leave to dry.
Get some oilbased Undercoat, white preferably, pour some into a container of some sort, add about a capful of white spirit and give a good stir.

Paint where you have washed the mould, even if its gone, still paint the areas, and even go a few inches either way with the UC, it wont do any harm.

When dry, re-paint as normal, but what ever colour you go for, brush over the UC first with your colour choice, as you dont want the white to show thru your coats, just paint a couple times with the colour, then roll as normal.:D

thanks for that, was going to use diluted bleach to get rid of the mould before painting but didn't know about the undercoat/white spirit thing, will give that a try.

Your welcome :D It will definately hold back the mould for quite a while, sometimes a couple of years, the oilbased UC trick works with any stain, ie, water, damp, felt tip pen etc, and you only add the white spirt so the UC is not too thick on the wall, as you see the thick brush strokes, when dry will show up, so the WS makes it thinner without losing any of the effect, and goes on smoother, also do the same with the spotting of the colour before you roll, just add some water to the emulsion, so when you come to actually roll, the brush lines wont show the finish result.

But you need at some point to stop the mould coming, the UC is only a stop gap till you address whats causing the mould and getting it fixed.
